This review is from: Encyclopedia of Business and Finance (Hardcover)
If you're looking for a basic primer not much beyond secondary school level (high school) then the "Encyclopaedia of Busine$$ and Finance" is recommended, however, if you are looking for something to help you in business or finance or the university level then you may well be disappointed. The entries are overly simplistic (sometimes painfully so - there is a section dedicated to telephone courtesy under "Telephone Skills"). For more complex topics there are very few formulas given throughout the book, especially when needed. Case in point; here is the entire entry for Net Present Value:
"Net present value (NPV). A capital investment's net present value (NPV) is the amount of value the company expects the investment to create. The NPV equals the sum of the present values of all of the money expected back from the investment minus the investment's cost."
Also a lack of focus, by contrast to the above entry on NPV, there are three and a half pages dedicated to video conferencing, including a "KEY TO SUCCESSFUL VIDEOCONFERENCING" (sic) section, and references to George Jetson (I'm not joking). Also there are numerous references to very specific to the US such as the "The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990", but no entry, for example, on the Yen or even any mention of 'Fannie Mae', or for that matter Michael Porter's five forces. To its credit, the book is comprehensive, but not on the accepted standards of business or finance, but rather the ins and outs of office work.
I'm sorry to say that this book is designed for school students. The fact that Business is spelt "BUSINE$$" on the front cover should be a dead give-away. A worthy gift to a fourteen year old student, but would be of little use to anyone older or more serious.

Product Description
Of the ...big three... components of the electricity infrastructure, distribution typically gets the least attention, and no thorough, up-to-date treatment of the subject has been published in years. Filling that void, the Electric Power Distribution Handbook provides comprehensive information on the electrical aspects of power distribution systems. It is an unparalleled source for the background information, hard-to-find tables, graphs, methods, and statistics that power engineers need, and includes tips and solutions for problem solving and improving performance. In short, this handbook gives readers the tools they need to understand the science and practices of distribution systems.Download

Dynamic Modelling for Supply Chain Management
Dealing with Front-end, Back-end and Integration Issues
Crespo Márquez, Adolfo
1st Edition., 2010, XVIII, 297 p. 109 illus., Hardcover
ISBN: 978-1-84882-680-9
Keywords » Collaboration in Supply Chains - Internet and Supply Chains - Supply Chain Integration - Supply Chain Management - Supply Chain Modeling - Supply Chain Planning
Related subjects » Information Systems and Applications - Production & Logistics - Production & Process Engineering
ISBN: 978-1-84882-680-9
An effective supply chain results in a clear competitive advantage for the production system as a whole, but supply chain management is a collaborative effort that requires the efforts of disparate groups of people and a wide range of expertise. Dynamic Modelling for Supply Chain Management discusses how to streamline complex supply chain management by making the most of the growing number of tools available.
The reader is introduced to the basic foundations from which to develop intelligent management strategies, as the book characterises the process and framework of modern supply chain management. The author reviews supply chain management concepts and singles out important factors in the management of modern complex production systems. Particular attention is paid to modern simulation modelling tools that can be used to support supply chain planning and control.
Coverage of the main problems related to supply chain management is organised into three different groups: front-end, back-end and integration issues. Traditionally, supply chain management focused on logistics but, in recent years, understanding and responding to customers’ needs have become much more critical. The book explores the operational and financial impacts of various potential problems, offering a compilation of practical models to help identify solutions.
A useful reference on supply chain management, Dynamic Modelling for Supply Chain Management will benefit engineers and professionals working in a variety of areas, from supply chain management to product engineering. All the topics covered are illustrated with case studies drawn from several different sectors.
